U.S. Senate Candidate Eldridge Releases Web Video in Support of Equal Pay for Women
LITTLE ROCK - The Conner Eldridge for U.S. Senate Campaign today released a web video regarding the current gender wage gap of over 20% in the United States and highlighted Eldridge's support for equal pay legislation. The video also criticizes his opponent, Sen. Boozman, saying he has voted against paycheck-fairness legislation at least five times since holding office.
"We have seen a lot of progress in the last century with respect to how women are treated and viewed by society, but our work is not finished," Eldridge said. "I find it unacceptable that women are still paid considerably less than men for the exact same work. My opponent has had a heavy hand in keeping any progress from moving forward on this issue, voting repeatedly against legislation that would ensure equal payment for equal work under the law. I have a problem with that."
The web video, titled "Jack and Jill: Equal Pay for Equal Work," portrays two children -- one girl, one boy -- performing various chores. After completing the exact same tasks, the girl is paid $0.79 to the boy's dollar. "That's not fair!" she exclaims.
"The fact that in 2016 a woman still earns just 79 cents for every dollar a man earns is intolerable, and the pay gap is even worse than that for minorities," said Eldridge. "But my opponent doesn't think this is an issue? Arkansas clearly does not have an advocate for women in John Boozman right now. As the next U.S. Senator from Arkansas, I will stand up for women day in and day out, and part of that is ensuring they are paid equally for the same work as the men they work beside."
