U.S. Senate Candidate Eldridge Releases Web Video in Support of Campaign Finance Reform

LITTLE ROCK - Former U.S. Attorney and candidate for the U.S. Senate Conner Eldridge today released a web video highlighting his support for measures involving major campaign finance reform. Eldridge also focused on his opponent's record, which Eldridge says makes the system less transparent. Eldridge hammered Boozman for a career supporting special interests in Washington, citing Boozman's support for the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling, his vote against the DISCLOSE Act, and his record of large sums of PAC contributions.

"As I travel across the state, one thing I consistently hear from Arkansans is that they are sick and tired of money and special interests controlling our political process and corrupting our government," Eldridge continued. "In his 15 years in Washington, Sen. Boozman has received over $3 million of special interest PAC money, he voted to uphold the disastrous Citizens United case, and he voted to let SuperPACs raise millions from billionaires without any transparency. What we need is more honesty, transparency, and accountability in our government and our campaigns -- not less."

Eldridge's opponent, 15-year incumbent John Boozman, reported nearly half of his campaign's fundraising numbers as coming from political action committees. Sen. Boozman has also voted numerous times against legislation that would make the campaign finance process more transparent, including voting against the DISCLOSE Act and an amendment to overturn Citizens United. Eldridge has already been endorsed by End Citizens United, a group dedicated to overturning Citizens United and advocating for campaign finance reform to remove “dark money” from the political system.

"Our efforts to clean up politics are in stark contrast to Senator Boozman’s record. As a woman in Perryville told me, 'when big money from Washington gives to a politician, we in Arkansas get left out.' That is why I am proud that over 80% of our donations come from individuals, a vast majority of them from right here in Arkansas. I certainly can't and won't be bought by special interests, and that is why Arkansans should elect a strong prosecutor willing to stand up to Washington. As Senator, I will fight to get dark money out of politics, return power to the people, and overturn the disastrous Citizens United Supreme Court decision."
