LITTLE ROCK - Former U.S. Attorney and candidate for the U.S. Senate Conner Eldridge today challenged incumbent Sen. John Boozman to a debate in Little Rock outside of War Memorial Stadium on Friday, September 2, at 6 p.m. prior to the Salt Bowl. Senator Boozman and the Senate are on the tail end of an historic seven-week recess, which has seen Sen. Boozman tour courthouses in Pensacola, Florida and spend time in Cleveland, Ohio.
"My first debate challenge was issued in February," said Eldridge. "Now, we are less than 70 days away from the election, and Sen. Boozman still has still not responded to my calls to debate. It's pathetic. He knows his record in the U.S. Senate is virtually nonexistent, and so he's trying to hide from the voters. Well, I am calling him out, and I invite him to debate at the Arkansas Salt Bowl this Friday evening in Little Rock. Parents, students, and thousands of Arkansas citizens will gather at War Memorial Stadium, and it’d be a great place for Senator Boozman and I to engage them in the election process and see what issues they care about. "
This week, as Sen. Boozman attempts to campaign in South Arkansas, the Eldridge campaign has highlighted Eldridge's record of delivering for the communities of South Arkansas as a former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas. Among other cases such as public corruption and kidnapping, Eldridge highlighted his takedowns of violent drug trafficking gangs in Miller, Ouachita, Columbia, Union, Clark, Hot Spring, and Garland counties.
"I loved my job as a U.S. Attorney, and I plan on taking the same hard-working, no-nonsense attitude to the U.S. Senate," said Eldridge. "Sen. Boozman has had 15 years to deliver for the people of Arkansas, and he has been absent. He has instead traveled to 53 other countries 129 times—9 times to Paris—all while ignoring those who elected him. I am calling him out for his poor record, and inviting him to answer the voters. This campaign is about electing a strong, new voice to the U.S. Senate, and I won’t back down from answering the people I want to represent here in Arkansas."
