JASPER, AR - Former U.S. Attorney and candidate for the U.S. Senate Conner Eldridge today visited the Buffalo National River in Jasper, Ark. In addition to celebrating the National Park Service's 100-Year Anniversary, the trip also served to highlight his support for the preservation of the Buffalo River and the contribution all Arkansas parks make to the tourism industry -- points Eldridge discussed with community leaders from the area.

"It's hard to overstate the impact Arkansas's parks have on the state," said Eldridge. "The natural and diverse beauty of this state is one reason why millions choose Arkansas as a destination spot every year. And like many Arkansans, I enjoy bringing my family to the Buffalo River and other parks around the state throughout the year. It's crucial we protect these areas that are so important to preserving the beauty and economy of Arkansas. The Buffalo River is the leading example of why protecting our environment advances Arkansas -- it creates jobs and brings tourism all while keeping us healthy."

The tourism industry has been a strong economic-driver for the state of Arkansas. Tourism brought 28 million travelers and $7.2 billion to the state in the year 2015 alone, according to a report by the Department of Parks and Tourism released earlier this year. Preliminary numbers show a similar trend for 2016.*

“As the backbone of so many communities across Arkansas, tourism must be a priority for our state,” said Eldridge. “And preserving areas like the Buffalo National River is paramount in this process. As our next Senator, I will work with the state of Arkansas, local communities and whomever it takes to strengthen and grow our state's tourism industry. Arkansas deserves a Senator who does more than simply show up and vote. We need a Senator who will be active and engaged in all parts of Arkansas -- tourism and conservation included."
