Keep Our Children Safe

As a father of three young boys,  Conner will do everything in his power to protect them and keep them safe. Conner has seen firsthand that there are evil people in our communities who want to rob children of full, happy and healthy lives.

Here’s what Conner seeks to accomplish:

  1. Hold those who break the law fully accountable for their actions. This applies equally to all criminals – from corporate fraudsters to drug dealers to corrupt government officials.
  2. End the cycle of poverty and violence plaguing too many of our communities. We must engage communities at the ground level to make real change.
  3. Ensure local law enforcement have the resources and training they need to keep our communities safe.
  4. Stop violence against women and end human trafficking.
  5. Work to ensure our criminal justice system is fair and free from discrimination.
  6. Reform our criminal justice system to appropriately lock up violent and dangerous criminals and implement effective rehabilitation efforts so they do not reoffend by:
    • Helping nonviolent drug offenders get the treatment they need.
    • Identifying and treating those with mental health problems.
    • Ensuring job training assistance so that folks who serve their time can get a job and permanently turn away from crime.

It is not enough to say these things. We have to act.

Conner became a prosecutor and U.S. Attorney to protect our children and communities and to help keep our nation safe. Over the years, Conner has helped put away domestic abusers, fraudsters, drug traffickers and dangerous criminals, including over 100 child predators. He has assisted with investigations into suspected terrorists, and stood side-by-side with law enforcement and leaders from both parties to clean up our streets. Public safety is and will always be one of Conner’s highest priorities.

Conner is haunted by the horrible cases that he prosecuted involving small children as victims.  We must to do all we can to protect kids, to help victims of crime and to prosecute those that harm or threaten children.  The first bill Conner will introduce in the Senate would make certain life sentences are available for all child predators.

To achieve true change in our communities, we must support and empower those affected by crime and get them on a path to success. When he was the United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, Conner started the A-Chance Program.  The program helps children in violent and crime-ridden homes recover and succeed in school and in life.  The concept is simple and free to taxpayers: when a child has a police incident at their home, their school is appropriately notified so that the child can get the attention, counseling and support he or she needs. Educators are in the best position to help these children.

Thanks to Conner’s efforts, kids in 6 counties in Arkansas now have the help they need after a traumatic incident. In August 2014, the program began operating in 13 Arkansas public schools, and Conner will continue promoting the program to school districts across our state.
