LITTLE ROCK – Today, former U.S. Attorney and candidate for the U.S. Senate Conner Eldridge reiterated his support for creating a system under which terrorists or suspected terrorists are barred from purchasing firearms and explosives. Eldridge restated his position following the United States Senate’s vote on the proposal, which failed to gather enough votes to pass. Both Arkansas Senators voted against the measure.
Statement from Conner Eldridge:
"I support preventing suspected terrorists from buying guns - period," Eldridge said. "As a former U.S. Attorney involved in domestic and international terrorism matters, I know from experience that asking the Department of Justice and the FBI to create a system that accomplishes this goal is the most prudent plan. I am confident we can develop a system that would prevent suspected terrorists from buying guns while vigorously protecting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. We must do all we can to keep weapons out of the hands of those seeking to commit acts of terror."
"This is about leadership, and what we need right now is to put politics and partisanship aside to prevent terrorists and suspected terrorists from getting their hands on weapons. At a time when we desperately need leadership, Senator Boozman will not engage in this debate, and even voted against common-sense legislation that would keep terrorists from obtaining guns while protecting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. Surely we can all agree that we should both keep guns away from those that may carry out an attack and continue to stand up for the rights of law-abiding Arkansans and others to protect themselves and their families."
