LITTLE ROCK - Former U.S. Attorney and candidate for the U.S. Senate, Conner Eldridge today released a statement calling on his opponent, Sen. Boozman, to withdraw his support for Republican nominee for President of the United States, Donald Trump. Eldridge's call comes after the weekend in which a tape surfaced displaying lewd, sexually-harassing comments from Mr. Trump. Since Trump's comments from the 2005 show "Access Hollywood" have surfaced, many in the GOP have withdrawn their support for Donald Trump, including Sen. John McCain, former-Republican Presidential nominee Carly Fiorina and multiple U.S. senators and representatives. In total, 54 GOP members of Congress have publicly stated their opposition to Mr. Trump. Republican Speaker of the Arkansas House, Jeremy Gillam, also called on Trump to withdraw from the Presidential race.
Statement from Conner Eldridge:
"Any hope that my opponent has been holding out for Donald Trump to change, mature, or become more presidential must come to an abrupt end. Sen. Boozman must join many in his own party's leadership and rescind his support for Donald Trump as his party's nominee for President of the United States. The fact that Sen. Boozman is still supporting a man who brags about sexual assault and uses such lewd, demeaning rhetoric simply because of the 'R' next to Trump's name is horrifying, and it says something remarkable about Sen. Boozman's lack of leadership and his state of partisanship.
"Mr. Trump is unfit to serve as President. His lack of remorse, any sort of real apology, or any personal responsibility for his horrific comments only further proves his behavior is reckless and he is not someone who can be trusted in the White House and with the nuclear codes. I call on my opponent, Sen. Boozman, to immediately withdraw his support for the nominee and give us a clear condemnation of Mr. Trump and his reprehensible behavior."
